Romaine Lettuce E. Coli Lawsuit Ongoing

An outbreak of E. coli that began in 2019 is currently under investigation by the CDC. People who consumed romaine lettuce began reporting illnesses from eating salads and other chopped lettuce products in October. The reports continued through December 19. To date, 138 people in 25 states have become ill from eating the contaminated romaine lettuce. There have been 72 hospitalizations and zero deaths.


The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state health organizations have conducted an environmental assessment.

They collected samples from environmental sources in the region, including water, soil, and cow manure. Even though the investigation and analysis of these samples is ongoing, the CDC has discovered the presence of E. coli0157:H7.

At last count, the outbreak affected people in 25 states, with 138 people becoming ill from food poisoning:
