International Golden Foods, Inc. Salmonella Lawyer Update: Tahini Products Recalled Due to Salmonella Risks.
A recall was announced by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) involving Tahini products sold by the company International Golden Foods, Inc. (IFG) on November 30, 2021. The recall was issued after the Tahini products were discovered to have been potentially contaminated with salmonella bacteria. According to the company IFG, their Tahini products were distributed national wide and sold in 16 Oz. jars. As of the time of the recall, no illnesses have been reported due to the Tahini products.
The potential contamination was discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture during a random product sampling. After being informed of the potential contamination the company IFG began recalling their Al Kanater brand tahini products out of an abundance of caution. The FDA has stated that the Michigan Department of Agriculture has not received the final laboratory reports yet, but consumers who purchased the Al Kanater brand tahini product should be vigilant for salmonella symptoms.
At this time the only products that seem to be affected by the recall are the Al kanater Tahini Sesame Paste 1 lb jars with Lot # TT4N‐201127, and UPC 6‐92551‐00002‐0. The FDA is advising consumers who have purchased Al kanater Tahini with the recalled lot numbers to discontinue use and return it to the store of purchase for a full refund. Retailers have also been urged to inform consumers who may have purchased the contaminated products about recall and advice for them to return them to the retail location for a full refund.
People who ingest products contaminated with salmonella bacteria normally begin experiencing symptoms within 6 to 72 hours. The most common symptoms of salmonella are nausea, diarrhea that can at times be bloody, fever, and abdominal cramps. Ron Simon, a National Salmonella Lawyer, stated:
“People are generally infected with Salmonella through improper food safety and contaminated food… Salmonella infects people of all age groups and backgrounds. Infants, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems are at greater risk of severe or complicated disease.”
