Northeast Seafood Products Salmonella Lawyer Update: Investigation Continues after

As the investigation on the Salmonella Thompson Outbreak linked to Seafood products continues, the first lawsuit was filed by the Law Firm Ron Simon and Associates, on October 21, 2021. The lawsuit was filed against Northeast Seafood Products in Denver County, Colorado on behalf of their client, who purchased halibut, cod, and salmon at his local Sprouts Farmers Market and after eating it began experiencing diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, and vomiting. The company Northeast Seafood Products issued a recall of many of its potentially contaminated products back on October 8, 2021, after the outbreak was announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).



According to health department officials, sick people reported eating a variety of types of raw and cooked seafood in restaurants and grocery stores. After further investigation and interviewing of the reported cases local and state health officials discovered that the majorities of the sick people were either Colorado residents or reported traveling to Colorado in the week before they got sick. Through epidemiologic, laboratory, and traceback data the CDC and FDA were able to link the outbreak to Northeast Seafood Products of Denver, Colorado.

In their recall, Northeast Seafood Products informed their consumers that in an investigation of their facility the CDC found certain types of seafood potentially contaminated with salmonella bacteria. According to the company, the potentially contaminated products were distributed between May 2021 to October 7, 2021, to restaurants and Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado. Despite the recall of the potentially contaminated products health officials are still worried that consumers may still have some of the seafood in their freezer without being aware of the recall.

People who ingest products contaminated with salmonella bacteria normally continue experiencing symptoms for up to 7 days after becoming ill. Although no new information has been disclosed since the last update by the CDC on October 8, 2021, the possibility of more people becoming ill from the contaminated seafood product is still high.
